Physical Wellness

Uncategorized Jun 07, 2021

This past year and a half (2020-present) has taught me SO many important lessons.  Chief among them is how precious life truly is; how delicate it is and how miraculous our bodies are.  Incredible!

Just a few weeks ago, I was fortunate to be able to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 - the infection that claimed countless lives and impacted us all.

I've been personally interested in health and wellbeing for a bit over a decade now, having begun my own path of a plant-based life in 2010.  This year though, I kicked it up into high gear and really evaluated how I was setting my body and mind up for success.

Think about it.  Our bodies and minds do so much for us every moment of every day.  For example, our precious heart muscle is there nestled in our bodies, relentlessly pumping away.  It asks very little of us when you think about it.  How can I not do everything in my power to help it along?  There are thousands of examples of exactly this interaction that our bodies do without us even thinking about it.  The least (the actual least) we can do is make sure that we are respecting and treating this opportunity at life with as much care as we can.

This idea of wellness will look different to each person - based on their outlook, goals and daily responsibilities.  Everyone, though, can do something.

I'll tell you what I've been doing and have found works for me - maybe you can find something in here you could try for yourself.  Chiefly, I do my best to get a good night of rest.  This means that I try and rest and rise at approximately the same time each day and I make sure to limit screen time and food and drink too close to bed time.  When I get up in the morning, I avoid the snooze button and instead, go about my AM routine and stretch out my body just a little.  Then, I check in with myself physically, mentally and emotionally.  All of this takes literally 2 minutes.

As I go about my day, I make sure I have scheduled some physical movement that I hold myself to showing up for.  This could look like a walk, dancing around my apartment during quarantine or getting to the gym.  Throughout the day, I make choices about what I put in and on my body that help me feel good and fuel my body the best way I currently know how.  For the last decade or so, I've been fueled by plants, and I've gotta say - I love love love it.  Being plant-based has impacted every part of my wellbeing and I'm so grateful to have found it.  And it's more accessible and easy and less expensive than most people think (ask me about it).

One area I AM working on getting a bit better in is drinking enough water.  I know I don't do that enough - so any tips or tricks you might have on that would be much appreciated!

So that's it, in a nutshell.  My own physical wellness daily practices.  It's what I've found, over time, works best for me.

Now your responsibility is to discover what works best for you, commit to it in your own life and get to living it out!

As we all, thankfully, move forward, I hope we keep in mind how truly lucky we are to be alive and healthy.  Let's not ever take it for granted.
